Artisan SakeMaker, founded by Masa and Yukiko Shiroki, is a Vancouver-based business that grows rice in Abbotsford and sells grains, sake, and skincare products. They made their KFM debut in our 2024 Winter Market! It was pretty rice.


They are one of the few rice farmers in BC, and they're part of the minority of the global rice industry that grows rice in dry fields. Most rice is grown in flooded paddies, which is bad for the environment for various reasons; flooding is used as a weed management, but it brings many downsides like soil compaction, excessive water use, and more. Growing dryland rice avoids many of these environmentally damaging effects.
